Would You Buy A Used Car From This Man?

Robert Spano, current conductor of the Atlanta Symphony, modeling an ensemble—and shoes—picked from the remainder bin at K Mart.

There are many, many reasons why Spano’s career has not worked out—although his Telarc recording of Berlioz’s Requiem is one of the greatest party records ever made, with more laughs-per-minute than any episode of “Frasier”.

My father, a brilliant man who always moves straight to the essence of a matter, says that Spano lacks the one quality without which a conductor simply cannot move either musicians or audiences:

“He lacks the nobility factor.”

  1. My favorite cousin, Jane, just loves this guy! Mr. Spano has acquired national and international eminence in the current years, and I think if he’s the one selling a used car to Jane, she’ll probably buy it RIGHT AWAY! :D

  2. I guess it depends on the car he’s selling me. :) I need to consider first of all the model, the value, the fuel economy of the car. I’m saying this ‘cos I know I’m more a car person than I am a music person. But anyway, I still hold him in high regard for his profession. -->Nicole
